On January 1, 2012, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) mandate the adoption of a new standard – HIPAA version 5010 – for electronic claims submission. Transitioning from the existing 4010 standard and meeting the January 2012 deadline will be difficult at best.
