MIDDLE TIER DATA CONNECTIVITY

Extend Data Access Across Platforms and APIs

Progress DataDirect SequeLink is a data connectivity solution that extends your application’s access to data sources with limited platform or API access. For example, you may have an application that accesses SQLBase via ODBC, but you need to access it from a Java or .NET application as well. SequeLink also provides broad access to all major databases using a single universal client component for ODBC, JDBC, ADO.NET, or ADO/OLE DB.

SequeLink is highly scalable, server-based middleware that gives you complete coverage for data connectivity. You get access to data from previously unavailable APIs and platforms, as well as access to all major relational databases through ODBC, JDBC, ADO, and .NET components. SequeLink offers:

  • Extended access to data sources with limited API or platform support
  • Access to all major relational databases through database-independent client components for ODBC, JDBC, ADO, and ADO.NET
  • Centralized management of data access if desired

Provides Complete Data Access Coverage

SequeLink provides a single, universal interface for data access, which gives applications broad access to multiple data stores across data access APIs (ODBC, JDBC, ADO.NET, and ADO) and application platforms. You get standards-based access to all the major relational databases, and with the SequeLink Socket, you can extend access to data sources with limited platform or API access, thereby protecting your investment in existing data and applications.

Reduces Cost of Deploying Applications

With SequeLink, one universal component is installed on the client or application server, regardless of the database brands to be accessed. This reduces the amount of configuration time and subsequent time spent re-configuring when something changes. SequeLink components use a Common Server DBMS interface to access multiple databases concurrently. This eliminates the inconvenience and expense of installing and maintaining multiple drivers and multiple database vendor-specific middleware for each database brand.

Improves Control of Data Access and Administration

SequeLink allows you to monitor and configure data access from a single point of control. A centralized management console allows you to configure services remotely, monitor active users, monitor data access requests, and troubleshoot data processing jobs.

Extensive Data Access Coverage

  • Extends access to data sources with limited platform or API access through SequeLink’s Socket component
  • Data access for ODBC, JDBC, ADO, and ADO.NET
  • One universal client component accesses all major relational databases—Oracle, SQL Server, DB2, and Sybase

Simplified Support

  • Near-zero client administration – one universal data access component is installed on the client or application server, regardless of the brands of databases to be accessed
  • Client installs and configures easily and prevents DLL conflicts and multiple DBMS vendor network stacks

Better Control

  • Manager Tool for data access configuration, management, and live monitoring of users
  • Remote configuration
  • Single point of control for data access tasks
  • Event traceability

Security

  • SSL data encryption
  • Kerberos-based operating system authentication for seamless integration with Single Sign-On Environment
  • Tight integration with Windows Integrated Security and RACF on z/OS
  • Multi-level authentication, including database, application, and host levels
  • Enforceable read-only connections
  • See Security Support Matrix for security features supported

Performance and Scalability

  • Supports high-performance use of server shared resources (threads) while increasing the number of concurrent and connected users for large-scale demands
  • Direct native access on the DBMS server for maximum performance
  • Connection pooling
  • Efficient use of server resources
  • Configurable multi-threaded implementation uses a dynamic worker thread model
  • Fetch ahead/record caching, packet chaining, and deferred execution minimize network hits

Flexible Deployment

  • 2-tier and n-tier configurations
  • Integrates with LDAP and JNDI for centralized connection and configuration information
