Progress DataDirect OEM customers distribute the same code base as the standard commercial Progress DataDirect products. To protect your investment, you will brand and enable your drivers to work only with your product(s). Converting the standard commercial Progress DataDirect products into OEM products at your own site guarantees that you will redistribute the exact same drivers that you have used throughout your testing and certification processes.

Branding

After downloading and installing your drivers, you will select a unique identifier and use the Branding Kit to generate your version of the OEM drivers. The Branding Kit contains a utility that converts the standard licensed or evaluation products into closed and uniquely renamed OEM products.
Closed drivers have a protected license file that allows the drivers to work only with your application, and not with other third-party applications. The class files, DLLs, or shared libraries are renamed with an identifier that is unique to your application. This eliminates the possibility of conflicts with Progress DataDirect products shipped by either us or by other OEM partners.

Enabling and Distributing

In order to use your Progress DataDirect OEM drivers, your application must first invoke the drivers by sending a special function call with the required password to the OEM product license file. You will need to make this function call immediately after each call to connect to the database. If your customers attempt to use your OEM products with any other third-party applications, an error message will be returned. This OEM licensing mechanism ensures that you will only be supporting your OEM products with your application.

To distribute OEM products with your application, you will add an OEM products installation routine into your setup program and include the appropriate OEM product class files, DLLs, or shared libraries on your installation media. Your setup should:

  • Copy the OEM product(s) files from your installation media onto your customers’ computers.
  • Add the necessary entries to the corresponding sections of the system information files and environment variables.
